Mindful: Attentive, Aware, Conscious, Thoughtful, Alert.
Miscellany: A collection of various items, parts, or ingredients, especially one composed of diverse literary works.
Welcome to A Mindful Miscellany, a newsletter dedicated to finding Signal in the Turbulent Twenties.
JSOU Fellowship: I am pleased to share that I have been selected as a Joint Special Operations University Non-Resident Fellow for the 2023-2024 academic year. Description from their website:
“Established in 2022, the JSOU Non-Resident Fellows Program is a one-year, voluntary fellowship for talented practitioners and thought leaders who have an interest in developing and propagating Special Operations-relevant ideas under JSOU’s imprimatur and with the advisement of an assigned faculty mentor. JSOU welcomes applicants from all backgrounds and nationalities.”
Over the years, I’ve taken multiple courses from the organization. JSOU is the premier education and research institution for the U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF), and I’m humbled and grateful to have the chance to contribute to their mission. I’m looking forward to working with the other fellows and faculty to advance the understanding of SOF and its role in national security.
In the Querying Trenches: The other big piece of news to share is that I am querying literary agents, seeking representation on The Infernal Tower. Compared to actually writing a novel, that process is a horse of a different color, to quote some Wizard of Oz. A literary agent serves as an intermediary between author and publishing house, and is required to be traditionally published these days, most of the time. I will keep you posted. I’ve started working on another novel, ideating and outlining in the meantime.
Have a great week everyone!

Congratulations! That’s excellent.
Congrats - it seems like you are focusing down to the least bit of info you can, (less is more).
Good on you and also congrats again on announcement.
Finding signal in the turbulant 20s may mean becoming very terse, or succient in one wise man's words.
Of course some choose to guzzle fine wine and some like to sip it.
Pace and tone do play a role. I want to share/mention a new book i became aware of last evening about Eisenhower, who may not be on anyone's radar.

I saw the interview with Striner and was really impressed with his grasp of the geo-politics of the midcentury and his appreciation for Ike's role in that fraught era. I look backward as well as forward for signal.
