And now let's roll up sleeves and get to creating the world we want to live in! Hopefully that involves connection, community and care (for health for our bodies and minds so so that we can care for and about our community, relationships, our planet).
Great reframing Adam. I too have been struck by how many thoughtful. intelligent, well-educated people seem unwilling or unable to disconnect their identity from one or other party political position and shift to a level where some sort of inclusive perspective is available.
Populism has gotten a bad rap the last 8 years but this country, We the People and democracy in general is based on populism. I agree with your point that this was an election against the elite in defense of populism and you can see in the Democrat response, how they view the people: With disdain. How dare the people not listen to their masters, the consensus science, how dare they not trust the experts?
2020 showed everyone what elitism looked like where liberal tech workers stayed home and lectured while the working class still showed up and delivered food, medicine, and entertainment to their appartments. 2024 showed everyone how tenuous elitism really is.
What a beautiful piece. Thank you.
