Ok, I’m saving this one to re-read. Lots to try to wrap my head around. On the first pass, I’m struck by how aligned this is with the foundational principles of Stoicism- Impressions (how we perceive events), Judgements (what we choose to value), and Impulses (how we choose to act). Skillfully using each of these leads to eudaemonia/happiness/a smoothly flowing life. I’m really interested in the nuance described in your model.
If performance is potential leaving the model, and they are all sublime, especially liking attunement, then we need to come up with more than models. I know this is iterative, experimental, experiential, existential.
I feel we head towards model satiation though. Analysis and synthesis of what results we get from the models?
A time for a walk in the woods and drifting repose at your thoughts mate.
What you call attunement chimes similar to my understanding of the energy concept of “flow”. I wonder if you agree/disagree, Adam. I wrote about that here and further in some of the links:
As to “ideas having you”, I got a brainstorm for a book years ago, and over a 3 day period I could barely sleep as I thought and worked on that first draft. It felt like being obsessed and possessed and was rather unpleasant. I’m glad that was a one-off experience and my writing flow is usually more gentle and agreeable!
Absolutely love the diagrams and your reasoning seems spot on. Definitely one well honed article, looking forward to rereading this in a natural outdoor setting where i can attempt atunement with the concepts you have shared. Very well done. Very Arete.
This is really interesting. I have not seen it laid out like this before. I found the A-Frame figure to be quite useful for framing a big mid-life decision (action) I made / was guided to. I reached Attunement for this Action by Intuition, and Discernment, but was adverse to following thru because of Perception. Ultimately Perception was sort of the hammer that pushed me fully into the Action, but Perception is also the bridge back too.

Yes to all this brother. Elegant and eloquent.

Flow well and well done
Here we go!
